<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">The issue
this essay will address is one that requires no flowery introductions. On the 7th
of January, the Nigerian presidency signed into law a bill which
comprehensively criminalized homosexual unions, acts and sympathies. For the
purpose of the law, ‘civil union’ included homosexual adult independent
relationships, caring partnerships, civil partnerships among others. The
overwhelming majority of Nigerians who have applauded this law did on various
grounds which I have summed up thus: culture, religion and public choice. I do
not agree with this majority. And I will justify my deference by logically and
systematically attacking these bases in order to prove that this law is: first,
a clamor for public support and patronage and second, a prejudiced attempt by a
powerful majority to oppress a minority.

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">CULTURE

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">The
presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati said about the act of homosexualism, “…it
is not our culture…” and millions of Nigerians echoed in agreement. What is
culture? If memory serves correctly, it is simply the totality of a people’s
way of life, key word being totality, not
majority. My social studies class also taught me that culture is diverse and
changes with respect to people, place and time; true to this, the numerous
Nigerian cultures have undergone transitions. Christianity, health care,
education and technology are all additions to the Nigerian cultures in response
to the demands of the three referrals listed above – people, place and time.
And more additions occur as these referrals continue to transform daily. Where
then, lay the boundaries defining ‘our culture’ as a nation?

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;"> A friend
vehemently upbraided the Europeans for the ‘infection’ of the Nigerian culture
with homosexuality; she hailed the law because of her fears that in their usual
manner, Nigerians would ‘out-perform the teacher’ in the practice. I wondered,
and I still do now, if we also blame the Europeans for ‘infecting’ our culture
with fornication, adultery and rape, even of infants as young as 15 months old.
If we indeed blame the Europeans for these rising despicable trends, where are
the policemen carrying around lists of ‘potential’ offenders on these counts?
Where are the vigilantes and mobs religiously enforcing the laws prohibiting
these practices on our streets? My answer to this is prejudice.

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">Section
21(a) of the Nigerian constitution stipulates that “The state shall uphold the
Nigerian cultures which enhance human dignity and are consistent with the
fundamental objectives…” of democracy and social justice. The recently-passed
law in question breaches that.

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">RELIGION

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">Not a few
advocates took to the pages of the Holy Bible and Koran in the attempt to
justify this law. As much as I am tempted to, I will not prove in this essay,
my belief, based on my knowledge and experience as a Christian, that God would
have handled this situation differently than it has been handled. Nor will I
explore the malicious hypocrisy of my discovery that many advocates of this law
are spurred to voice their support by their abhorrence of man-on-man sexual
activities while harboring a healthy tolerance (even likeness, in many cases)
for woman-on-woman sexual activities. What I would rather take issue with is
the error, which is quickly gaining popularity among Nigerian leaders and
followers alike, of mixing the state and its law with the dictates of religion.

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">Chapter IV
(38) of the Nigerian constitution clearly stipulates one of every Nigerian’s
fundamental right as the “right to freedom of thought, conscience and
religion”. While Nigeria may be a country of religious people, it is not a
religious state hence the absence of any one religion as the National religion.
The wrongness of instituting a law based on principles particular to one or a
number of religions in a country which legally allows one the right to not
practice any religion cannot be overemphasized. The attempt to justify the
anti-gay law on the grounds of religion is not only criminal and hypocritical
but is also responsible for recent malodorous occurrences like the incessant
Boko Haram killings and the subscription of some state governors to religion as
disguised psychological blackmail of the voting electorate.

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">“Religious
persecution may shield itself under the guise of a mistaken and over-zealous
piety”, Edmund Burke said and I hate the fact that he couldn’t have been
righter.

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">PUBLIC
CHOICE

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">“…Nigerians
are happy with it”, the Nigerian presidential spokesman also said. And over the
days since the law was passed, voice saying “it is the people’s choice” and
“this is democracy, majority carries the vote” have risen in his support.
Democracy is indeed a government whose leadership is voted in by a majority but
I refuse to believe that it subscribes to the oppression by a majority of a
minority who in exercising their fundamental rights of choice and association
hurt no one.

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">If majority
did indeed automatically dictate the law and the extent to which it protected
its subjects, slavery would have never been abolished in China, Europe and
America where slaves were an obvious minority; racial discrimination of the
minority black Americans would also have never ended; Hitler’s holocaust of the
minority Jews in Germany, Charles Taylors’ crimes against Liberians and Saddam
Hussein’s genocidal brutalities would have had heavy stamps of legal approval
over them, the ink long-dried. Even when the majority was in support of a revolution
as was the case of South Africa in the apartheid era, the law came to the
rescue of the victims not because of their numbers but because they sought
equality, democracy and social justice – precepts which every law venerates.

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">If at this
point, you are saying “This writer is clearly gay!” I feel no urge to either
congratulate or sympathize with you because you have completely, but not for
the first time, missed the point. For the readers who would however, put
sentiment aside to absorb my arguments and proceed to sift through the facts
for themselves, I will now take my stand. My stand is based on nothing else but
the exact term of the issue at hand – the law.

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">THE LAW

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">Section
14(1) of the Nigerian constitution states: “The Federal Republic of Nigeria
shall be a state based on the principles of democracy and social justice”. On
these counts, the anti-gay law fails woefully. The law criminalizing homosexual
unions, acts and sympathies, in my opinion is both wrong and unnecessary.

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">It is wrong
because it absolutely violates six fundamental rights of the Nigerian citizen
as stated in the Constitution and exposes a percentage of the country’s people
to harassment and abuse. On the count of being unnecessary, the law could have
prohibited the public display of sexual acts (homosexual and heterosexual)
because such would corrupt the younger and more impressionable populace; it
could have criminalized rape and all manner of sexual practices (homosexual and
heterosexual) lacking consent of the individual(s) involved because it would
clearly abuse the unwilling individual while robbing him/her of fundamental
rights. But the law cannot and should neither criminalize a sexual act between
consenting adults nor peaceful meetings or gatherings of people united by their
sexual orientation.

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">I fear that
the government in a bid to prove that Nigeria will not be bullied by western
forces may have gone too far with this law. If there were an argument over the
color of a handkerchief and the opponent took the stand that it was black, I
needn’t argue that it is white in opposition; there are the options of grey,
brown, ash or the good old SILENCE. The irony of this situation is that the
sleeping monster whose loud snoring noises the government claims to have
targeted with this law may have just been roused as a result. My biggest fear
is that instead of the auditory disturbance of snores alone, we may soon have a
fully alert, hungry monster on our hands.

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">The effects
of this law are fast unraveling in the uncharacteristic efficiency with which
the police, vigilantes and volunteer mobs are enforcing it across the country.
Health clinics for health care and rehabilitation of homosexuals have been
shuttered and reports of beatings, arrests and manhunts for ‘potential’
homosexuals abound. No matter the terms with which we try to justify it, this
law is unjust. And an unjust law is no law at all.

Money can't buy you love..This saying makes so much sense as British couples David and Angela Dawes have reportedly ended their two-year marriage because of rows on how to spend their Euro million lottery win.

According to Mailone

David and Angela Dawes won a EuroMillions jackpot worth £101million two years ago. But according to members of their family, they are currently living apart – with relatives blaming the split on rows over how to spend the windfall.

Mr Dawes, a former taxi driver is thought to be staying in West London, where he owns a £3.5million flat close to his beloved football team, Chelsea FC.

Mrs Dawes, a former charity worker, is still living in the couple’s luxury home – where she yesterday refused to confirm the split, saying: ‘I don’t know what I am meant to have done, I don’t know why I am in the paper.’
However Mr Dawes’ sister-in-law Rose Ryan, who is married to David’s older brother Denis, said: ‘Dave has told me they have split up and they are getting a divorce. He told me he has frozen all the money so she can’t get at it.
‘He doesn’t want her to spend it all. He didn’t like the way she was getting through it.’
Another close relative said: ‘They have definitely broken up. It is to do with the money. They have been rowing about how to spend it.
‘Money is the root of all evil – too much money and not enough ways to spend it.’
Mr and Mrs Dawes’ EuroMillions win was the fourth biggest in Britain and made them the 702nd richest couple in the UK. At the time, the win made them more wealthy than David Bowie and celebrity couples such as Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne or Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin.

At the press conference announcing their win, they discussed a shopping list of the cars and mansions they would like to buy, spraying champagne as they looked forward to their new life.
They also promised to give up to 20 friends and relatives £1million each.
Mr Dawes said at the time: ‘We’ve drawn up a list of 15 to 20 people who we’re going to make millionaires.
‘Anyone who has helped us through our lives.’
But that very generosity could have been the root of the couple’s disagreements, according to relatives.

One family member : ‘They gave money to Dave’s mother, his two sisters and even his friend to set up a burger van but they never gave me anything. I am struggling.’

On Sunday, November 17, 2013, Lagos stood still for Psquare‘s Peter Okoye and fiancée Lola Omotayo as the couple held their traditional wedding ceremony, surprisingly elder brother Jude Okoye was missing.

Social network has been buzzing. The twins’ publicist Bayo Adetu said Jude was missing at the wedding because he was stuck in Ghana. Psquare had performed in Accra, Ghana at the ‘Glo and Bounce Slide‘ tour the night before. Adetu says Jude missed his flight and couldn’t get back to Lagos in time for the nuptials.
But a source who was part of another artiste’s entourage to Ghana for the concert says Jude Okoye did NOT travel to Ghana. ‘We didn’t see him, the twins were here with their band but we didn’t see Jude‘, a source said.

There are few instances pointing to the fact that Jude did not travel with his Pop star twin brothers to Ghana for the concert: Jude, a regular user of photo sharing Instagram never fails to post photos of their trip outside Nigeria – there were no photos of him aboard the airplane heading to GH, photos of the twins performing at the concert.
One source asks: ‘If he was truly stuck in Ghana, wouldn’t he have even lamented on Twitter like D’banj?‘.

Instead Jude posted a photo of himself and Wizkid in the studio. The picture is believed to have been taken a night before at the Mavin Records studio where he had been working with Don Jazzy, Dr SID, Phyno and others.
Inside sources in the Okoye family revealed that Jude Okoye and a few other family members did not support their brother’s marriage to his baby mama Lola Omotayo. Some sources also also claim their late mother never supported the relationship too.
‘Jude and some others don’t like her. They never gave their blessing for the marriage. Paul too, but he is his twin. Other family members who were there were reluctant to attend. Jude didn’t go because he never supported the idea from day one‘, a family source tells us.
Some of the Okoye family members have even gone as far as insinuating that Lola Omotayo has allegedly constantly cheated on Peter Okoye. It was gathered there have been demands for a DNA test to really ascertain whether his children Cameron and Aliona are truly his. ‘It’s that serious, they claim Lola sleeps around with her so called ‘uncles’, they want a DNA test done, they just want to protect their brother‘.
This allegations have not been confirmed, and Adetu insists there are no issues, that Jude was only MIA because he was stuck in Ghana. One of the couple’s friends also told us all these are ‘wicked rumours’. ‘Wicked, false rumours. Nothing can be more false and distasteful. They should leave them alone and let them have peace…’
Lola currently lives in a mansion in Park View estate, Ikoyi. The Okoyes are currently building their new home somewhere not to far from there. It is uncertain where the couple will make their home.

Jude Okoye has been working with Psquare, his younger brothers since they released their first album ‘Last Nite‘ under Timbuk2 Music label back in 2003.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17908112360376736267noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3724025002446670261.post-81543046030460612072013-11-12T13:07:00.001+01:002013-11-12T13:07:33.817+01:00Gov. Chime Ejects Wife From Government House" />

Governor Sullivan Chime has finally evicted his official wife from the government house in Enugu after several days of wrangling. The first lady of state was packed up and moved with her 4-year old son to her mother’s house in Enugu. Security agents were posted outside the house for several hours to ensure she did not return to the government house.

Mrs. Chime described how her marriage to the governor had broken down, with four years passing without any intimacy between them.

She said she continued to stay in the government house hoping that the governor might change his ways after receiving treatment for cancer in the United Kingdom; she also charged that several members of her family would not allow her to leave the governor because they were benefiting from the governor directly.
Mrs. Chime insisted she was not mentally ill as portrayed by the governor and his aides. She said the marriage was so bad that she frequently had nervous breakdowns, which led the governor to confine her to a section of the government house until she managed to smuggle out an email crying for help.

Mrs. Chime’s community is reportedly outraged at her treatment by the Governor. The traditional ruler of Ozuluobu Community, Umunneoche, Abia State, His Royal Highness, Eze Bob I. A. Ogbenna, said the family had formerly informed him of the marriage breakdown and her eviction from the governor’s house. Obgenna, who said he handed over Clara to Chime when he came for her marriage some years ago, said in a press interview: “That is not how to return somebody’s daughter whose dowry was paid in Igboland. Sullivan Chime Attempts To Eject Wife From State House" />

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State attempted to eject his wife, Clara Chime, from her State House quarters over her decision to go public about his illegal detention of her.

In effect, Mrs. Chime would have regained the freedom she has been denied for months, and for which she has campaigned publicly in the past week.

The governor’s action followed a marathon meeting the governor held with Clara’s Igwe family, during which the governor decided to let her leave the government house.

However, insiders say Mrs. Chime said she would prefer to travel out, preferably to the United Kingdom, to take care of herself and then be allowed to return to her matrimonial home upon completion of her trip.

Sources at the meeting said the governor turned down that offer, instead telling the First Lady to pack out immediately.

The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation has concluded that Mrs. Stella Oduah, the Minister, is a serial liar.

In a report on its investigation obtained by SaharaReporters, the committee dismissed every single claim the Minister made during her testimony to the committee earlier in the week concerning the purchase of two bulletproof cars for her by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

It stressed there was no appropriation for the purchase of the two armoured cars, and stressed that the NCAA proposal for the purchase of the two MBW armoured cars was rejected.

“There was no provision for armoured vehicle in Nigerian law for a minister in any event, any procurement for an armoured vehicle must be provided for in the appropriation act and backed by relevant approval,” the report said.
The committee also noted that the Minister and the Director-General of the NCAA claimed that both vehicles were purchased under a lease agreement with First Bank plc.

“The assertion is not true because First Bank plc clearly stated that they were procured under auto loan, this is clearly shown by the loan agreement between NCAA and First Bank.”

Furthermore, it said, “The document submitted shows that BMW chassis No. DW68044 and DW68032 while on ground committee inspect BMW vehicle chassis No. DW68044 and W68011 , the identity of W68011 is still unknown to the committee because the vehicle chassis number did not tally with the documents submitted.”

Turning to other testimonies, the committed recalled that the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, clearly stated in her presentation that her Ministry did not approve any waiver for the two vehicles.

“Coscharis Motors Limited claimed that the Federal Ministry of Finance granted it import duty VAT, ETLS, CISS, and port charges waiver to import two number bullet proof BMW armored cars, this claim is false. The Hon. Minister of Finance in the testimony before the committee stated that the Federal Ministry of Finance only granted waivers to Lagos State Government through Coscharis Motors Limited in 2012 for the importation of 300 units vehicles for use during the 2012 Eko Games and that the waiver did not include the importation of two BMW armored cars.”

Similarly, both Mrs. Oduah and the DG of NCAA claimed in their presentation that the procurement of the operations vehicles complied with the relevant laws of public procurement, fiscal responsibility and due process. This claim was countered by the Bureau of Public Procurement assertion that it was not part of the transaction between NCAA, First Bank and Coscharis Motors Limited to procure the operational vehicles. Furthermore, no evidence at complying with due process was shown however.”
The committee further recalled that Mrs. Oduah also testified that the lease financing arrangement would see NCAA pay N100m by the end of 2013 fiscal year while the balance of N16m will be paid in the following year. The amount, according to the Minister, fell below what is required for Federal Executive Council (FEC) approval.

“However, documents from NCAA indicate that on April 25th 2013, the Hon. Minister approved the sum of N564, 665,000,00m. There is no evidence to show that the Hon. Minister presented NCAA’s request to Federal Executive Council for its approval.”

The committed observed that neither the Minister of Aviation and NCAA submitted copies of necessary documents to validate the claim that the transactions followed due process whatsoever.
“The pre-shipping inspection end-user certificate issued by the office of National Security Adviser (NSA) to Coscharis Motors Limited is for three nos armoured BMW 760 Li High Security vehicles with chassis number DW68032, DW68044 and DW68047,” the committee said.

“From the records Coscharis Motors delivered to the NCAA two nos armoured BMW cars with chassis number DW68032 and DW68044, Coscharis may have to explain the ownership and whereabouts of the third armoured car with chassis number DW68047, since neither of the three armoured cars had approval.”
Pope Francis Kisses Man With Rare Disease Showing The Healing Power Of Compassion
Pope Francis' compassionate nature was poignantly captured in this image of him tenderly comforting a sick man by kissing him on the head.

Though the man's face was disfigured, the Pope laid his hands on his head and screwed his eyes up tightly in prayer. Earlier in his general address, he asked the assembled crowd to pray for a sick little girl that he had just met.
Pope Francis tweeted earlier this year, "The Pope must serve all people, especially the poor, the weak, the vulnerable." The photo really speak for itself with regards to his genuine concern for humanity....Rare love....more photos after the cut:

A Teenage girl complained to her grandma at the dinning table. She said: grandma, I'm not pretty, I don't have nice clothes like my friends in school and her grandma said "child, clothes don't make you pretty, they make you BROKE!". Now we live in a world where the minds of the young and innocent(females in particular) are being manipulated to believe in an ILLUSION....a world where TV is REALITY and FACT a FICTION.

The quest to want to really "BELONG" becomes the "real hunger" in the life of a young growing female; and I ask myself, who took away her self-confidence, who taught her the act of inferiority complex and who said she needed artificial eyelashes, expensive designer shoes and a hair extension of 150thousand naira just to look good, huh??!
Young lady, you were made in the image of a beautiful God which by default makes you uniquely beautiful just that you haven't discovered that very special thing about you. It could be your smile, INFECTIOUS. It could be your character, HUMBLE and HOMELY. It could be your eyes, CHARMING, it could be your intelligence or your voice or even the way you walk. If you noticed, all attributes mentioned above, have no materialistic attachments to them, they cannot be bought, they are PRICELESS.

A great philosopher, Francis Bacon said: "The best part of beauty is that which NO picture can express."
So you see, there is something definitely unique about you, what is it? Don't tell me, tell it to yourself. Do not give room to inferiority complex or timidity or lack of self-confidence rather appreciate the way you have been created:
Walk tall with your head held high, sparkle, glow, shine and be that woman of your dreams.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17908112360376736267noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3724025002446670261.post-12422018992641458472013-11-06T10:58:00.000+01:002013-11-06T10:58:48.063+01:00"Order The Release Of Mrs. Clara Chime From Unlawful Detention By Her Husband Or Be Dragged To Court" - Femi Falana Tells IGP

Lagos lawyer and human rights activist Femi Falana has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar to order the immediate release of Mrs. Clara Chime, the First Lady of Enugu State from unlawful detention by her husband and disciplne the police and state security officers who colluded with the governor to perpetrate the cruel act.

Mrs Chime, Falana said, is being detained illegally in Government House, Enugu by Governor Sullivan Chime. And failure to order her release would compel the law to take its course with the IGP dragged to court.

In the letter dated, November 1, 2013, published exclusively by SaharaReporters, Falana said Mrs. Chime is his client who has been kept in custody and not allowed to see or speak with anyone for the past four months on the orders of the governor.
SaharaReporters on October 28, also published exclusively a letter by Mrs. Chime in which she appealed to human rights organisations to come to her rescue because Governor Chime had placed her under house arrest.

Moreover, Mrs. Chime said she had been introduced to two psychiatrists, Dr. Onwukwe and Dr. Agumo, who prescribed “all kinds of drugs that end up keeping me acutely depressed and also drives me into hallucinations.”

She added that President Goodluck Jonathan, his wife Patience, Bishop Callistus Onaga of Enugu State and others have waded into the illegal detention, but the governor has refused to release her.

Falana’s petition said: “Thus, our client’s fundamental rights to the dignity of her person, personal liberty, fair hearing, private and family life and freedom of movement guaranteed by the Constitution and the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 have been violated without any legal justification,” the letter said.
“Although our client’s dehumanizing detention conditions have had deleterious effects on her psychological as well as her mental and physical health, she has been denied access to her doctors by her abductors.”
It continued: “It is particularly disturbing to note that some of the police and State Security Service (SSS) personnel assigned to secure the safety of the Enugu State governor, his wife and other family members have aided and abetted Mr. Chime in subjecting our client to egregious infringements of her fundamental rights.”

Falana conceded that the governor is covered by immunity; but the police and SSS officers involved in the illegal arrest and detention of Mrs. Chime are not covered and must be sanctioned under the relevant laws.

It concluded: “In all of these challenges, one thing is very clear; we must not only be seen as existing, we must relentlessly support true democracy and the rule of law.
“So it has become necessary to step up our activities as true democrats and make our contributions to the growth of democracy in the country.’’Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17908112360376736267noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3724025002446670261.post-32436713872409585112013-11-06T09:39:00.000+01:002013-11-06T09:39:40.246+01:00Don Jazzy Took Credit For My Wande Coal's 'Go Low' - Shizzy

The Catholic Church has in a statement released sympathised with Families of the deceased who lost their lives at the Adoration Ministry stampede that claimed about 28 lives.

As reported earlier, Anambra Governor Peter Obi i and his candidate, Willie Obiano had arrived to the [Adoration Ministry] at the early morning hours of about 12:15am to address the audience that had come for night vigil thereafter a stampede broke out that left about 28 dead

Read Statement Below

In the early hours of Saturday, November 02, 2013, there was a stampede moments after prayers at the Holy Ghost Adoration Centre, Uke, in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State.
The stampede, which occurred while people were going home, resulted in the loss of some lives.
Some are still injured and receiving treatments in some hospitals.

Vigil was usually held at the centre on every first Friday of the month. The crowd at the centre was unprecedented on this first Friday of November 2013 probably because it was the Solemnity of All Saints and a holy day of obligation for Catholic faithful.
Save for the unprecedented crowd, the vigil started and ended normally.
The stampede was reportedly caused by a false alarm raised by somebody in the crowd along one of the narrow roads out of the town. The crowd was so much that people wanting to leave all at the same time made it very difficult for people to find enough space to move.
This happened in just one of the roads out of the town.
The outpouring of concerns and supports with regard to the incident has been tremendous. The Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. valerian Okeke, is still deeply saddened by this ugly incident.
He has visited the dead in the morgue and the injured in the hospitals. His heart goes out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the incident.
He promises his closeness to them and all the faithful of the Holy Ghost Adoration Centre, Uke, and especially the Spiritual Director of the Centre, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, who is hard hit by the ugly incident.
Full investigations have been launched into the matter and more efforts are being made to protect the lives of all worshippers at the centre.
The Archdiocese of Onitsha remains very grateful to the many volunteers who swung into action immediately saving as many lives as possible. We also thank the management and staff of the various hospitals where the injured were sent immediately for treatment. They have been wonderful.
We remain grateful to you all for your closeness and sympathies at this difficult moment. May the dead through the mercy of God rest in peace, Amen.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17908112360376736267noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3724025002446670261.post-37179458523964618372013-11-01T09:57:00.000+01:002013-11-01T09:57:13.594+01:00Kanye says he and Kim are more influential than Barack & Michelle Obama

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) on Wednesday said that the Federal Ministry of Finance granted a waiver of N10.1 million to Coscharis Motors for the purchase of the two BMW cars by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The NCS told the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation investigating the alleged importation of the cars by the NCAA for the Minister of Aviation Ms Stella Oduah that the said waiver was to import 300 vehicles, including the controversial two BMW cars.

Representative of the Comptroller-General of the NCS, Mr Manasseh Jatau, a Deputy Comptroller of Customs, disclosed this in his presentation at the public hearing of the case on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said the point of entry of the cars was Tincan Port in Lagos, adding that no import duty was collected from the owner of the goods (Coscharis Motors) as a one-year duty waiver for 300 cars was granted in the name of the company for importation of cars for Eko 2012 Games in Lagos.

Jatau said the exemption on the two BMW cars along with 298 others was at the expense of the Lagos State Government, who would have been the beneficiaries of the payment.

Documents presented to the committee by the NCS showed that the Import Duty, VAT, ETLS, CISS and Port Charges Waiver Certificate was issued by the Ministry of Finance on Nov. 20, 2012.
The document was signed by the Director of Revenue, Mrs Rose Ngozi-Maranzu, on behalf of the finance minister.

Jatau also disclosed that contrary to earlier reports, the Office of the National Security Adviser duly issued an approval for the purchase of the armoured cars.

He said a signed copy of a pre-shipment inspection end-user certificate issued by the NSA on June 6, 2013, showed that due approval was gotten from the office for Coscharis Motors to import three armoured cars valued at 223,653.48 dollars into Nigeria for commercial purposes.

The document, identified as “Form A’’, had the stamp of the Office of the National Security Adviser appended on it.

Members of the Committee were engaged, for over 30 minutes, in a heated argument with Coscharis Motors in a move to ascertain the market price of the vehicles.

While the committee insisted that the current price of the vehicle should not exceed N50 million each, Coscharis outrightly refuted this position, saying it could never be the case with BMW B7 series anywhere in the world.

Coscharis, represented by the company’s Chairman Mr Cosmos Maduka, alleged that the NCAA demanded an increase in the prices of the controversial vehicles over what the company had submitted earlier.

“NCAA told us that the initial price is not proper,” Maduka, said.
He also said the cars were sold to NCAA as used vehicles following the delay encountered when the company sought clearance from the office of the NSA.

But the committee insisted that Coscharis deceived the public and the government by saying that the cars were bought for NCAA when actually they were purchased on behalf of the Lagos State Government.
The committee also accused the company of ripping Nigerians off.

According to the committee, the change in the prices of the vehicles from the initial N70 million to N127.5 million, even when the company had admitted that it got waiver from the government not to pay customs duties on the cars, cast aspersion on the company’s position on the prices.

NAN also reports that the hearing later took a dramatic turn when the committee discovered that the company supplied different make and type of vehicles.

A member of the committee and spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Zakari Mohammed, said that the chassis number of one of the vehicles inspected by a delegation from the committee read DW68011.

He argued that the number differed from what Coscharis gave in their correspondences with the office of the NSA.

But in a swift response, Maduka refuted this, quoting the chassis numbers as 68044 and 68432, respectively.

He, however, promised to send the certificate issued by the NSA for the purchase of the cars to the committee.
Earlier, the company had requested to play a video to demonstrate how exotic the cars were in a bid to justify the prices, but the request was turned down by the committee.

Also the former Acting Director-General of NCAA, Mr Joyce Nkemakolam told the Committee that he approved a leasing agreement rather than a loan, with First Bank Plc on the purchase of the cars because of an advice he received from his colleagues.

A member of the committee, Rep. Raphael Nnanna-Igbokwe had asked why the NCAA insisted on going on with the leasing agreement after being informed by First Bank Plc that it was not disposed to leasing facility but loan facility.

“I signed the agreement based on advice from my colleagues that leasing and loan facilities are the same. I thought the templates are the same,’’ Nkemakolam said.
But Committee was shocked when the acting Director-General said though as the Chief Executive Officer during the period under investigation, he was not aware of the details of the delivery of the two vehicles.

A strong and healthy relationship can be of the best support in your life. Good relationship improves all aspect of your life, strengthens your health, your mind and your connection with others.
Relationships are investment, the more you put in, the more you get in return. However, if the relationship isn’t working it can be a tremendous drain.

A thriving and healthy relationship is absolutely within your reach if you and your partner are willing to do a bit of work.

The below tips if religiously implemented can put up a spark in your cold relationship.

Being Involved:
It takes two to tango…it takes two to be in love…Every relationship is unique and people come together for good a many reason. Some relationship got stuck in peaceful co-existence but without truly relating to one another and working together. It may seem just stable at the surface.
Lack of involvement and communication can be detrimental to your relationship as this will gradually create a gap between partners.

Make Good of Your Words:
Follow through on your promises. Live up to your words. Whenever you promise, ensure you fulfill. Don’t say you will do later or simply forget it. An empty promise systematically destroys trust. Trust is an essential ingredient for a thriving relationship. Don’t make a mess of it.

Admit Your Mistakes:
If you hurt your partner, be it intentional (in the guise of Payback) or not, own up to it. Humble yourself and apologize, sincerely without making excuses or justifications like “I am sorry but you made me angry”.

Communication:
Honestly, direct communication is an integral part of a successful relationship. When both partners feel comfortable expressing their needs, fear and desire, trust and bond are strengthened.

Anger Is a Waste of Time:
Anger is a relationship killer; it makes you self-absorbed and will prevent you from seeing the good in your partner. If by any means you are annoyed with your partner, you give yourself sometime to calm down and then gently discuss the issues.

Find a Way to Become & Stay Best Friends:
For some reason, this might sound un-romantic but those who live it most say’s it’s the best part of their time together.

Accept That Conflict Happens:
If you expect to be in a long-term relationship, you are bound to have occasional disagreement. Remember that one argument isn’t the end of everything and there is no person on planet earth that you’d agree with all the time.
The choice of a bride is a serious business. Thus picking
the right wife is of utmost importance. With the rising trend in marriage

…cut long story short, Fred got employed in One of the International Oil Companies and once upon a rosy relationship began to hit the rock….too bad

All effort to put Fred to other was futile…yea the money was there…there existed a difference in class as Fred got himself hob-nobbing with the Oil moguls…and he felt his 8 years old “boo of life” as he professed back then was no longer a fit for him….LEVELS DON CHANGE…..

Well this brings me to the subject matter….Is He The Marrying Type?.....Is He The One For Me?

Truth be told, been with your partner for light years is not a guarantee it will lead to marriage and the sooner this is realized, the better because it will definitely prevent lots of confusion and heartaches.

So wished Cindy was observant…but she was blinded by LOVE….which never existed.

Taking you to Mars, Bahamas, lavishing you with all sorts of gifts isn’t yet a guarantee. This shouldn’t make you lose focus. In a relationship you don’t have to be carried away, open up your mind-eyes.

So how can I tell if he is the marrying type?

Well the signs are glaring, it stares at you right in the face and if you sincerely want to see those signs you just have to pull off the scales in your eyes and observe every corner of your relationship- Remember, not just the interesting part you want to see.

If you are such a person that is keen on getting settled at a time appropriate, then you will naturally desire a partner that has similar visions as you when it comes to Love & Relationship. While this is only natural, do not conclude that just because you are involved with him in a serious relationship, then he is going to walk you down the aisle…Hell No!

This is why you must discuss your relationship with him once your relationship reaches a comfortable enough point to talk about marriage.

Truly there are relationships where understanding your partner feels more like a rocket science. If you feel he loves you but you ain’t certain he is ready for marriage, then watch out for the following signs:

He digresses whenever you put up discussions on marriage

He doesn’t stimulate you….I mean no chemistry

He doesn’t share your values and character

He lacks personal responsibility.

If these signals are indicating a red after your evaluations, I will take a giant leap off the relationship if I were you…

#tributetoMIC 2 (dat generous man!) I walked into his office to invite him 2 Season2 of our show in 2010. Your work and Legacy live after you Uncle Tunji.

#tributetoMIC 26 I love and will miss you. In the words of the yoruba people, 'O ye Olorun bi ko ye Eniyan'. Today being the 1st of October, President Goodluck Jonathan took to his Facebook page to to address the Nation. Read below:

Address by
His Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR
On the Occasion of Nigeria's 53rd Independence Anniversary.
Tuesday 1st October, 2013

FELLOW NIGERIANS,

1. Today marks 53 years of our Independence as a nation. First and foremost, I would like to say congratulations to us all. Through thick and thin, we have built this country together. Through triumphs and trials, we have developed a Nigerian identity in our own way.

2. In truth, Nigeria is still a work in progress and we are challenged everyday to keep building in spite of the various obstacles that we face. Our strength has been in our diversity. If we look back over the years, we can say confidently that there is every reason to celebrate.

3. Today's Independence anniversary is unique because it is the last before we mark our centenary. On January 1, 2014, Nigeria will be 100 years old as a country, following the amalgamation of the Protectorates of Southern and Northern Nigeria in 1914.

4. Beloved country men and women, traditionally, the Presidential address on this symbolic day has served two purposes. It has, quite rightly, been used to remind all Nigerians about our heritage. It has also allowed my predecessors and I to comment on our stewardship to the nation and make political capital out of a state occasion.

5. But this year, I will not. Because, today of all days, we should not be scoring political points. On the contrary, in this last year of the first century of our Union, we should be addressing our future as a Nation and a people!

6. I admit that these may not be the best of times for our nation. Our people are divided in many ways – ethnically, religiously, politically, and materially. I cannot hide from this reality. I cannot hide from my own responsibilities.

7. As we prepare to mark the centenary, therefore, today offers us an opportunity to reflect on our long journey to nationhood and the progress we have made so far. Whatever the challenges that we may face, we have every reason to be proud of our national accomplishments; we have every reason to remain proud and optimistic. Our collective national journey has witnessed great watersheds, thanks to our spirit of endurance, perseverance and sacrifice. Getting the rest of the job done with determination and courage is just a matter of time. We are Nigerians, a nation of talented people, endowed with resources, potentials, and Divine Grace.

8. In our journey to greatness as a nation, we have built an economy that is robust and erected enduring infrastructure and institutions of democracy. Our social system is now more inclusive, open and compassionate. We are waging a steady battle against poverty, unemployment, and corruption. Our sense of community, solidarity and shared expectation is strong and capable of withstanding the present social, economic and political challenges that still confront us.

9. In saying this, I am reminded of the comments I made a week ago to a cross-section of Nigerians in New York during the 68th United Nations General Assembly. I declare now as I declared then: we have a duty as Nigerians, whatever may be our differences or prejudices, to always put Nigeria first.

10. Our politics should be an art of patriotic labour and selfless service to the community, particularly by the political elite who are placed in positions of great trust and responsibility. Politics has its own high moral principles which abhor distracting and divisive rhetoric. As men and women in leadership, we must continually focus on service, duty, responsibility, and the next generation. Those who are elected to govern at all levels must focus on improving the lives of our people, not selfish ambition.

11. In the words of the American theologian and author, James Freeman Clarke, ‘a politician thinks of the next election; a statesman of the next generation’. Whether we are Muslims or Christians; rich or poor; from the North or the South; East or West; regardless of our political affiliations, this is the time for every one of us to be a statesman!

12. My clarion call therefore, on this special day, is that we should begin to align our political utterances and conduct solely to the nobler passions that unite our people. Politicians do not make a nation; ordinary folks do.

13. Our nation is made great by the big and small efforts of regular citizens. These are the teachers and men and women in academics who inculcate the knowledge and wisdom that transform into tomorrow’s wealth; the traders and market women who tend to our everyday needs; the farmers whose labour feeds the nation; the artisans whose work ensures that our homesteads are well maintained; the doctors, pharmacists, nurses, accountants, bankers, engineers, and other professionals who add value to our lives; the sportsmen and women and those in the creative industry who bring honour and fame to our nation;

14. And the men and women of our armed forces and security services who toil day and night so that you and I may live in a safe and secure nation.

15. It is the individual and collective heroism of these regular folks that has placed our nation on the path of greatness. Politics and politicians sometimes distract the people and create unnecessary tension.

16. But our independence celebration is about the same people, the people of Nigeria: their industry, sense of mission and purpose, and their patience and perseverance as we navigate historical turns in our march towards prosperity and self-sufficiency. Today, I salute the people of Nigeria.

17. My Compatriots, history has proven that nations take time to evolve. We should rejoice in our democracy because it enables us to be united by our differences, not destroyed by them. And, there is no more crucial time for us to be united than now.

18. The threats we face may be real and immediate. But we are not alone in this regard. It is a difficult season for much of the world: industrialized or developing; rich or poor. What matters are the lessons we learn, the wisdom we demonstrate, and the victory we snatch from the jaws of likely defeat.

19. And I tell you, more than anything else, there are lessons to learn, and every cause to be thankful. If I must cite one example, take Syria. As we all pray and work for a return to normalcy in Syria, it would be helpful for us to reflect on the fact that Syria was once a peaceful, thriving, multi-cultural nation which played host to a mosaic of religions and ethnicities.

20. But that once idyllic nation has today become a theatre of human misery of unimaginable proportions as a result of the activities of extremist forces.

21. Fellow Nigerians, the spectre of extremism haunts every democracy in every corner of the globe. While we celebrate our independence and good fortune, our hearts must grieve for those who have lost loved ones in numerous terrorist activities around the world.

22. Back home, I admit being overtaken by deep feelings of grief, whenever news reached me of the appalling atrocities in some of our States, especially the North Eastern part of our country. Just two days ago, terrorist elements attacked the College of Agriculture in Gujba, Yobe State killing a number of innocent students of the institution and other residents in cold blood, most of them in their sleep. This act of barbarism is a demonstration of the extent to which evil forces will go to destabilize our nation. But I assure you, they will not succeed.

23. My heart goes out to the families of all those who have fallen victim of these dastardly acts. Our Administration will not rest until every Nigerian is free from the oppression of terrorism. I reassure you that no cost will be spared, no idea will be ignored, and no resource will be left untapped in the quest to enable our people live without fear.

24. On this day, I implore every Nigerian – wherever you are, whatever language you speak, whatever your religious persuasion, whichever Political Party you support -: let us join together to fight this evil of extremism.

25. On behalf of us all, I commend our Armed Forces and security agencies for their dedication and bravery in the face of grave danger, and in the name of our collective liberty.

26. Fellow Nigerians, this is a time to pull together behind the national cause: the cause of our freedom, and our future. We must rekindle the spirit of Nigeria, to ensure that every democrat and every lover of peace in this great nation continues to live in a free, peaceful, and secure Nigeria.

27. On my part, I re-dedicate myself completely to the service of this great country. I was elected President to continue the process of building a prosperous nation where hopes, dreams and aspirations would be fulfilled. Nigerians, home and abroad, want a country they can be proud to call their own. I am pleased to affirm that, no matter the challenges we face, we are on the right path to greatness. Our Transformation Agenda, which is part of the overall vision of making Nigeria a land of greatness, has been delivering positive and encouraging results.

28. On May 29th this year, I presented to the nation a mid-term report of my Administration’s Transformation Agenda. This was conceived as an integrated policy aimed at reconstructing not only institutional governance for effective and efficient service delivery, but also a re-orientation of national norms and values. The document captured the essence of our agenda in relation to core objectives and achievements.

29. I have been consistently mindful of the weight of public expectation to find solutions to the challenges that confront us because the mandate we have is a free and sacred one. In all that I have done, I have been guided by this sacred obligation, to work hard for the good of Nigeria and to make life better for Nigerians. I want to assure everyone that Nigeria, under my leadership, will not fail.

30. Exactly 53 years ago today, Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa urged us to ‘move with quiet dignity to our place on the world stage’. I am sure that there have been times when every one of us must have questioned how closely we have followed that injunction.

31. But again, I can reassure you that Nigeria’s place on the world stage today is strong and safe, and it is certainly a place of dignity and respect. We must continue to build on this by remaining a nation and a people committed to ideals, the noblest humanitarian values, and the rule of law.

32. Our Constitution is anchored ultimately on the idea of freedom and fundamental rights: freedom of expression; freedom from discrimination; freedom to vote and be voted for, and the right to human dignity. These are the core values of a true democracy. These are the values of which we must never lose sight.

33. In my address to the UN General Assembly last week, I emphasized the crucial role of democratization in improving the fortunes not just of this country, but of our entire continent. Democratic values encourage diversity. They encourage discourse. They encourage disagreement. This is the joy of democracy.

34. It enables us to have an opinion. And ultimately, the ballot box gives us all the opportunity to instigate change. When democracy works, it does not destroy a nation. It unites and defines it.

35. Fellow Nigerians, our Administration has taken cognizance of suggestions over the years by well-meaning Nigerians on the need for a National Dialogue on the future of our beloved country. I am an advocate of dialogue. When there are issues that stoke tension and bring about friction, it makes perfect sense for the interested parties to come together to discuss.

36. In demonstration of my avowed belief in the positive power of dialogue in charting the way forward, I have decided to set up an Advisory Committee whose mandate is to establish the modalities for a National Dialogue or Conference. The Committee will also design a framework and come up with recommendations as to the form, structure and mechanism of the process.

37. The Committee will be chaired by Dr. Femi Okurounmu while Dr. Akilu Indabawa will serve as the Secretary. The full membership of the Committee will be announced shortly.

38. I expect the Report to be ready in one month, following which the nation will be briefed on the nomenclature, structure and modalities of the Dialogue.

39. Fellow Nigerians, the past 53 years have seen Nigeria evolve on an epic scale. Our progress since independence has not always been smooth. This is, after all, our Fourth Republic; but despite all its flaws, it has lasted longer than all the previous three put together. That is progress and it proves that, our differences – real and imagined - notwithstanding, we are, in every sense, a united nation.

40. This is no time for the harmful clutches of parochial sentiments and the politics of bitterness, impunity, arrogance and unhelpful indiscipline. We must stand as one, with absolute commitment and resolve to resist any force that threatens us and the sanctity of our union.

41. I want to thank all our country men and women who have stood by this Administration in the midst of mounting challenges and enormous expectations.

42. I recognize that it is not easy to keep believing in the possibilities of our greatness when our faith is constantly challenged. But let me assure you that, if we do not despair, we shall reap the reward of our labour in due season.

43. It is my prayer that, another 53 years from now, our children and grand-children will look back on our effort and be thankful that we kept the faith.

44. May God continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

45. I wish you all a very happy 53rd Independence Celebration.

46. I thank you.

I have noticed this myself and have heard the sad tales of young single women from all sorts of backgrounds and theological persuasions. I have witnessed the self-indulgent lifestyles of guys who like women and seem to like babies well enough, as long as they belong to someone else. I have watched normal, rational moms turn into Mrs. Okonkwo overnight, sharing their frustrations with the lack of suitable men for their daughters who are prepared for and longing for marriage and children.

It seems to me that there are plenty of things that could cause a young man to be anxious about pleasing a wife, causing him to delay marriage. Below are just some thoughts whirling around my head why men find it difficult to marry.

1) Lack of Finance - it is every man's dream to get settled early if there is a means but due to present harsh economic factors, lack of employment, absence of good paying jobs; an average young man finds it an uphill task taking care of his immediate needs let alone catering for a wife and her obvious needs.

2) Affluence - By this , I mean families that are wealthy always want their children marrying from same class of family. This can be a delay especially when their wards try making choices from lower classes. The impending threats from Mum and dad will only delay an obvious process.

3) Too Choosy - You want the most perfect woman on earth as a wife! This is a fundamental error most people make in their quest for a life Partner. Each one of us have unique character. Riches can take you up but character will certainly take you down. while searching for a woman who is tall, elegant and educated may be every man's dream. Other attributes like skin color, age, size etc are all immaterial and have been reason why men are in an endless quest for a life partner till they are above 45 and still single with imminent grays on their hairs. This is the only time the would want any woman willing to say I do as a wife.

4) Parental Influence - A few parents will let their young man get married with a low income. The fear that his attention will be diverted to this young home with them been left behind uncatered have been reasons for their numerous hostility when they sense him been in a potential relationship

5) Fear of been Controlled - Most men do not want a nagging wife under the same roof with them. Men by nature want to be in charge and this idea have been confusing when they are been put at a check by a potential wife who is constantly on a check of his cell, sms , outgoing and incoming, bank statements etc. This factor causes delay in his making up his mind for the bold step. He rather prefers it while it lasted.

Human Rights lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome has finally regained freedom after being abducted two weeks ago by suspected kidnappers.

Though, it cannot be ascertained, how much was paid as ransom. It is rumored that the sum of N100million was paid by his family and friends to secure his release.

There was jubilation in his Oviukwe community in Etsako East Local Government Council of Edo State following his release by his abductors. It was learnt that the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) was abandoned near Agbor at about 1am.
The Edo State Police Commissioner, Folunso Adebanjo has confirmed his release.

Ex-Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode who is a family friend to the Ozekhomes also confirmed the release this morning, he said:
“I just spoke to him and he was very excited,” the former minister said. “He was full of thanks to God and was in very high spirits.”Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17908112360376736267noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3724025002446670261.post-53587614502594948532013-08-25T16:26:00.000+01:002013-08-25T16:26:51.866+01:00Teenager Flies Arik Air, From Benin To Lagos, Hiding In A Tyre<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>
